What directs our attention to an object? What makes one object “pleasant”, another “unpleasant” and others “neutral”?

In reality, the object itself has no meaning, it is our mind that gives it that label, “nice”, “ugly”, “does not bother me”. Or said in terms of what we can generate, objects could be: “attachment”, “aversion” or “indifference”. This is because our mind is storing information from experiences that happen one after another, and those memories stored in our minds reproduce unconsciously by themselves when we find a similar object, previously the mind has already the answer of “Like”, “dislike” or “neutral”.

In other words, the fact that an object transmits satisfaction depends on the decision that the mind makes previously. That is, the mind itself decides before contemplating the object if it “makes you happy; therefore, it is good” or “it does not make you happy, therefore it is bad”, and then when you see it, it confirms: oh! This is good, I´ll taking it.

Let´s suppose that someone who is at home thinking that he/she wants to eat a pineapple, before he/she goes to the market, that person´s mind has already imagined the pineapple in his/her mind; he/she has decided that it is a good idea to go to the market to buy a pineapple; so when he/she arrives at the market and sees the pineapple, he/she immediately perceives it as something pretty and attractive, because the mind  had already elaborated its preconceived idea about the pineapple.

This is one of the reasons why the choice of objects and creation of spaces occurs in an “unconscious” way, since we do not get to tell or recognize in a “conscious” way the quality that our mind has given to the objects previously, whether they are positive, negative or neutral.

If we paid more attention to our minds, we could find many keys to why objects; some spaces or people are pleasant, unpleasant or neutral. Once again: all the answers are inside of us.

Remember, “The best always happens inside; in your own home.”
