WHAT DO WE PERCEIVE? THE OBJECT OR THE THOUGHT ABOUT THE OBJECT?

It sounds weird, doesn´t it? Yes, it does, we generally believe that we perceive reality as we perceive it with our 5 senses. And even though it is evident that this is one of our ways of getting in contact with reality, the process is much more complex than this.

Today I want to share that human beings do not perceive objects or things directly, but what we really perceive are the thoughts we have about objects. Those preconceived ideas of which I have spoken in several articles are what we perceive at the time of coming into contact with physical objects.

For example, if we have a mug in front of us, some might think: cup – pretty – wide – nice pictures and I would buy it. Others might say: mug – ugly – uncomfortable – I would not buy it.

Why does this happen? Actually the mug itself has no meaning, what happens is that we previously have concepts about the physical world by previous thoughts already established, or social beliefs, that when we come into contact with what we call “reality”, it is worth the redundancy, we are not really perceiving the OBJECT itself, but our THOUGHTS about objects.

Although it would be a tedious exercise if it were done with any object that you interact with, you could have some clue to the perception process, just question yourself (if you wish) about your own thoughts and the physical world; I assure you that you would find many reasons why you experience what you think you experience.

Remember, “The best always happens inside; in your own home.”
